On behalf of the new owners and operators of the Eastbrook Studios in Dagenham, we would like to thank you for the support and interest you have shown in our studios so far. The positive public support has been quite overwhelming.

As you know, our ambition is to build a world class centre for film and TV here in Dagenham. It will offer unrivalled facilities for the biggest and best international movie-makers, and generate new industries and opportunities for the whole of east London.

Over the last six months we've been working with architects and industry experts to finalise our designs and ensure that we can offer a comprehensive suite of flexible spaces, equipped with the state-of-the-art infrastructure that this highly competitive industry needs.

We received planning permission from the council for our final studio designs in the Autumn 2021 and building work on the main section of our new studio complex is about to commence. Our ground preparation contractors are now on site, and we expect construction of the main studios to start in the Summer 2022 and complete December 2023.

We'd like to hear your views on the area in front of the studios

We have now finalised our plans for the area you see as you look at the site from Dagenham East tube station at the junction of Rainham Road South and Yewtree Avenue. This was not included in the original planning permission.

We intend to use this site as a ‘backlot’. A backlot is a vitally important part of every major film studio. The backlot is used in a variety of different ways, which vary over time depending on the needs of each production. It will generally be used for the construction of film sets and filming.

This space will give the flexibility that film producers need and will ensure that our facilities remain the best in class for decades to come. We will manage this area carefully to minimise any impact on local residents.

Facing on to the road, we will build an eye-catching new sign announcing the site and directing visitors to the studios. We will also plant bushes and landscaping to make this an attractive and more welcoming entrance.

We will erect screening to provide privacy and security for the site and to minimise any impact on neighbours or passers-by.

An artist's impression of what it would look like is below.

We intend to submit a planning application for this backlot in the spring.

If you have any comments or suggestions, we would be very pleased to hear them. Post your comments here.
