Consultation has concluded

The former Grays Court Hospital is currently vacant and a long term use for the building is needed.

The council is proposing to renovate the building to provide a flexible space for community activity and services for local residents which could include:

  • a community food club and cooking school
  • education and training activities
  • family learning opportunities
  • careers fairs and job clubs, and
  • the continuation of the out of hours GP service.

The refurbishment would also provide approximately 55-60 new rooms to provide temporary accommodation for local families who do not have a permanent home and are seeking one.

Following planning permission being granted by the Council in February 2020, refurbishment work to the former Grays Court Community Hospital are progressing well with our contractor, United Living.

As a reminder of the scheme, permission was granted to refurbish the building to provide up to 62 rooms for Temporary Accommodation use. The scheme is particularly focused around providing temporary accommodation to families in need. The previous clinic service provided by the Partnerships of East London Cooperatives will resume from Grays Court once the scheme is completed. Currently we are anticipating completion in early 2021.

Our contractor, United Living, are issuing regular communications with updates on progress, and works in the forthcoming weeks. If you are a local resident to Grays Court and are not receiving this, please get in touch with Be First at communities@befirst.london
