We at Be First believe that the heart of Dagenham Village is its residents – that’s you! We’re on a mission to create a community vision that brings your dreams and aspirations to life, guiding how we shape our village in the years to come. And we can’t do it without you!
What’s Happening?
We’re crafting a vision for our village and we need your thoughts, ideas, and hopes to guide us. We’ve teamed up with Urban Symbiotics, experts in community engagement, to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard. This isn’t about what we think is best, but what you, our neighbours and friends, believe is best for our community.
Dagenham Village – Our Home
Dagenham Village, a beautiful corner of Barking & Dagenham borough, is steeped in history. With the Wantz Stream flowing towards the Beam River, our village is rich in natural beauty and historical landmarks like The Cross Keys pub, Billy Bragg’s bronze sculpture, Dagenham Church, and The Vicarage.
In the 70s, a lot of the old village was replaced with modern housing. We believe it’s time to review our community’s needs and potential, ensuring future developments reflect the unique character and heritage of Dagenham Village.
The Challenge and Opportunity
Previous attempts to develop new housing here faced many obstacles and never got off the ground. We’ve learned that your support is crucial to make any changes successful. This time, we want to start with your ideas.

Residents of Dagenham Village, we're thrilled to announce that the initial phase of community engagement for shaping our village's future has been overwhelmingly positive! Now we're inviting you to be part of the next essential chapter.
The Journey So Far
Our journey began with informal street pop-up conversations, followed by a shift to more focused community workshops. The response has been incredibly encouraging, validating the community's eagerness to be actively involved in the area's future development.
Local educational and recreational facilities played a key role in getting families, children, and young adults involved. People of all abilities participated, adding valuable perspectives to the mix.
What's Next?
The next step in our community engagement journey is just around the corner. We're hosting a follow-up event at Dagenham Parish Hall, Exeter Rd, Dagenham, on:
- Thursday, 28th September from 6 pm to 8 pm
- Saturday, 30th September from 11 am to 2 pm
This is your chance to contribute further as we consolidate the community's input and set the stage for the next phase of Dagenham Village's development.
