Welcome to Be First's Reading Page! We are promoting all kinds of reading as we champion 'The National Year of Reading' - a Department for Education initiative, in collaboration with the National Literacy Trust, the campaign aims to tackle the profound decline in reading enjoyment in the UK and reconnect people of all ages with reading as a relevant and immediately rewarding activity.

We aim to play our part in “the biggest campaign in a generation designed to help more people (re)discover the joy of reading and make it part of their everyday lives.”

The campaign asks the nation to Go All In on their passions and interests in 2026 and discover how reading can unlock the things they already love – be that music, football, baking, family-time, sci-fi, or … anything.

We will be embracing reading in the workplace, in response to 'Go All In' guidance:

  • Fun comes first: Reading should be enjoyable. Share the things that excite you and spark others’ interest. Choose activities that you and your community will enjoy.
  • Inclusive and welcoming: Everyone’s reading journey is different. Champion reading in a way that’s open and non-judgemental.
  • Celebrate all forms of reading: Books, comics, blogs, podcasts, audiobooks, matchday programmes, recipes – it all counts.
  • Flexible: There’s no single “right” way to get involved, do what works for you and the people around you.
  • Connect with passions: Link reading to hobbies, interests and everyday life, to make it meaningful and engaging.

We will start with a survey of the staff's interest in reading and 'Go All In' activities and share stories of the various ways we are championing reading this year.
