Planning for the future of Hepworth Gardens and Southwold Drive
There is an acute need for more housing across the country, and Barking and Dagenham is no exception. We need more affordable housing for local people.
The council is proposing to redesign some of the areas with older housing as one solution to this problem. This will enable them to build more high-quality homes that meet the needs of Barking and Dagenham residents.
As part of this, we want to start the conversation with residents of 41-59 (odd) Hepworth Gardens and 38-64 (even) Southwold Drive about providing new homes here.
In addition to new homes, the Council wants to look into improving children's play areas, improving access to Mayesbrook Park via a new bridge, and building a new faith space with community facilities for locals.
Tell us what you think
We urge residents to participate in this process as it affects the entire area's future and we’re keen to hear your views.

Talk to PPCR
We have appointed PPCR Associates, an independent resident engagement organisation, to facilitate the conversation about Hepworth Gardens and Southwold Drive.
This first stage took place in December 2021.The next stage will begin in March 2021. PPCR will get in touch with all those living at 41-59 (odd) Hepworth Gardens and 38-64 (even) Southwold Drive to provide more information and carry out more detailed conversations about the possibilities for providing new homes.
There are currently no definite plans for new building, and before any plans can be drawn up we need more information from tenants and leaseholders living at 41-59 (odd) Hepworth Gardens and 38-64 (even) Southwold Drive.
A member of the PPCR team will be in touch with each household to discuss your needs and concerns about any future redevelopment. All these details will be fed back to Be First and the Council.
PPCR will provide a variety of opportunities for all local residents to participate in the conversation. If you prefer to talk to them on the phone or online, the team is also available. PPCR can be reached at 0800 317 066 or via email at info@ppcr.org.uk.
Additionally, you can give PPCR your view through their online survey.
