Our contractor, Murphy, is now working on the site of the former Sacred Heart Convent.

Our aim is to renovate the existing building and to convert it into nine flats, surrounded by terraced houses arranged around a courtyard.

There will be nine flats within the existing building and 20 newly built houses with gardens in the surrounding development, totalling 29 homes overall.

The new homes will be a mixture of two and three storey properties, and the convent building will include three fully adapted wheelchair homes.

These much-needed new homes will be let by Reside – the councils housing company

These much-needed new homes will be let by Reside – the councils housing company - at below market rents. The rent will start from £184 a week for a one bedroom flat (2020/2021 prices).

Our aim is to provide attractive new homes which complement the old convent building, which was designed in the 1930s.

New landscaping will enhance the view from the street by retaining as many trees as possible and planting new semi-mature cherry blossom and fruit trees.

We will also introduce better parking to minimise any inconvenience to local residents.

Our aim is to complete this work by early 2022.

Murphy is a member of the considerate contractor scheme and we will ensure that they minimise any inconvenience to local residents while the work is in progress.

Local residents will hear from them during the course of the contract with further details of the timings for the scheme and information about how to report any issues if there are problems.

If you have any questions about this project, please post them below and we will answer as soon as we possibly can

Works to the former Sacred Heart Convent site are progressing well, with the refurbishment works to the former convent building underway. In the coming months, preparation and ground works will take place to form the foundations for the new houses to be built upon.

As a reminder of the scheme approved by the Council, Be First aim to deliver 9 flats within the refurbished Sacred Heart Convent block, and 20 new family houses in the surrounding grounds as well as a communal garden with children’s play areas.

    J. Murphy and sons, the main contractor for the scheme, are issuing regular updates to local residents to inform on progress and works anticipated in the following weeks. If you are a local resident and you are not receiving these communications, please get in touch with Be First at communities@befirst.london
