A creative competition for children at Rose Lane Primary School

Here’s a great creative activity for your children with three great prizes.

We have launched an Activity Pack entitled 'Windmills, Manors and Apple Trees' as part of the Your Marks Gate competition inspired by the plants and wildlife that inhabit Padnall Lake and the Marks Gate area and also the wider history and heritage of the estate, homes and it's close proximity to Hainault Forest.

The competition is for all year groups across the school and we will select a winner for the best entry from each key stage including Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS): Nursery and Reception, Key Stage 1 (KS1): Year 1 and 2, Key Stage 2 (KS2): Year 3-6.

Each winner will receive a brand new bike!

All entries will be published on this website, and via our Instagram account.

How to enter

Please email a photo of your artwork to communities@befirst.london with the heading Your Marks Gate, please include a title for your artwork and don’t forget to tell us your age and category selection by 9am on Monday 3 May 2020! This competition is split into three age groups: Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.

    Our judges were really impressed with the quality of the artworks submitted to the Your Marks Gate competition by students at Rose Lane Primary School that they decided to award two 'Special Mention' awards.

    The first was awarded to Izma Ikram, aged 7 for her artwork 'Amazing Padnall Lake'. Izma created a detailed and colourful drawing of Padnall Lake, the local nature and homes that surround it. Well done Izma!

    The second award went to Sara Arbra Mezyraj, aged 10 for her artwork 'Earth Crying'. The judges were really impressed with her drawing with a wider message. Sara wanted to spread the message 'that we need to start treating the Earth right. I thought of this idea because of climate change and Covid-19. People are not caring for our planet, for example not taking care of mature or their own rubbish'. Well done Sara!

    We are really pleased to announce that Ianis Abel Patrascu, aged 11 has won the the Key Stage 2 (KS2) category of the Your Marks Gate competition with his artwork 'The Apple Tree'. Ianis created a wonderful and colourful painting of an apple tree in the orchard. Ianis writes about his entry, 'It's a place where you can relax when you want to be with yourself. The sun and moon represent how each day is always blessed, wonderful, marvellous, adventurous and brilliant!'

    Well done Ianis!

    The second prize was awarded to Lola Dauti, aged 9 for her artwork 'Features of Padnall Lake'. Lola created a drawing of the homes and nature by the lake.

    Well done Lola!

    The third prize was awarded to Mayed Binkhalid Altohur, aged 11 for his artwork 'Padnall Poet-tree'. Mayed created a drawing of a tree with all of the things that are important to Mayed, this includes family, love, nature and the local park.

    Well done Mayed!

    We are really pleased to announce that Akeem Osinake, aged 6 has won the Key Stage 1 (KS1) category of the Your Marks Gate competition with his artwork 'Windmill'. A detailed cardboard sculpture of Drake's Mill, a windmill that once stood near to Marks Manor.

    Well done Akeem!

    The second prize was awarded to Mohammad Mohid Saleem, aged 6 for his entry 'Heritage of our Marks Gate'. Muhammad created a colourful drawing that explores the heritage of Marks Gate with Drake's Windmill, Padnall Lake, Manor House and an apple tree from the orchard as a 'tree of unity between different communities that live on Marks Gate'.

    Well done Muhammad!

    And finally the third prize was awarded to Loki Bailey, aged 7 for his artwork 'Windmill and Lake'. Loki created a really interesting 3D artwork using found natural materials and drawing. The artwork references Padnall Lake and Drake Windmill.

    We are really pleased to announce that Aaliyah Khan, aged just 4 has won the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) of the Your Marks Gate competition with her artwork 'Animals at Padnall Lake'. A painting of animals at Padnall Lake looking for food. Our judges were particularly impressed with the detail, imagination and vibrant colours used in this artwork.

    Well done Aaliyah!

    The second prize was awarded to Benjamin Tanner, aged 5 with his artwork 'Rubber Band Rainbow'. This artwork was created by Benjamin using the ingenious tool of an elastic band paintbrush to paint his colourful rainbow. Our judges thought Benjamin's entry was very cheerful.

    Well done Benjamin!

    And finally the third prize was awarded to Noah Lyan-Rana with his series of artworks titled 'Marks Gate Houses'. Noah created a series of houses and buildings using a variety of mediums including collage, drawing and sculpture of Marks Manor, Drakes Windmill and his family home.
