The KS2 Winner for the #gascoigneyourplace competition is 'My journey to school', by Jenny Dai, aged 8.

The judging panel were really impressed with the level of detail in Jenny's drawings and writing. The artwork is a detailed display of Jenny's journey to school and key important locations on her way, these are Barking town hall and the Broadway theatre, Barking library, Greatfields park, Abbey Leisure centre.

Jenny has written a detailed piece of writing about the improvements she would like to see on Gascoigne.

These are just a few of the points she makes; 'I think there should be more parks in the neighbourhood because outdoor learning and P.E are just as important as indoor learning.' 'I would like more clear areas for cycling and nature, with less cars and less carbon emissions. '

The KS2 runner up is 'How I see my Barking', by Muhammad Qasim, aged 8.

The judging panel were really impressed with the attention to detail on Muhammad's drawing and the recommendations he makes for his home town Barking.

Muhammad has drawn a detailed map with drawing and text to describe how he sees Barking. He writes the following; 'I want better quality and affordable houses.
More schools with more teachers.
I am proud of the NHS during Covid-19, it needs more nurses and doctors.
Everyone should have the freedom to follow their religion.
More gardens for children to play.
More shops with healthy food.
People should be encouraged to use public transport'.

The KS1 Winner for the #gascoigneyourplace competition is 'Way to school' by Pranav V Menon, aged 6.

The judging panel were really impressed with the attention to detail on Pranav's drawing of a map that marks his journey to school. On his map he has included key locations on the way, these include Barking town hall, Abbey park, the Abbey centre and the river Roding.

The KS1 runner up is 'My school journey', by Jevon Dai, aged 6.

The judges were really impressed by the detail and vibrant colour used in this drawing. Jevon has drawn the places he sees on his way to school.

This is what he wrote; 'On a typical school day, I always walk past Greatfields park, one of my favourite places with my mum and sister. I like to play seesaw and swings with my sister. I think the huge slide is the coolest thing in the park. During spring, I see lots of pink cherry bloom trees and little flowers on my way to school. I am always excited to see these beautiful flowers.
I drew the tall building because I have seen this building all the time on my way to school, my mum told me this building is next to Barking station. I can use this building as a route indicator, it tells me the direction to my school and the library.

We are pleased to announce that Abdulrahmaan Mohammed, aged 5 has won the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) of the Gascoigne - Your Place competition with his artwork 'My local area'. A map of his local area and all of the places he considers important, this includes his home; labelled 'my building', the GP surgery house, park, school and the local mosque.

Well done Abdulrahmaan!

And the EYFS runner up is 'Barking Town Hall', by Rithvi Vaddepally, aged 5.

Our judges really liked Rithvi's impression of Barking town hall, an important landmark of the borough and one that she sees on her way to school. Rithvi also celebrates many community festivals and events at the town hall. The building is special to her.

It's a wrap! The competition has now closed. We have had 57 entries in total, all of which are fantastic, there have been some brave, honest, creative and really thoughtful responses to our brief. Thank you to everyone who has submitted their work.
